The .hm domain is used as the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the Heard and McDonald Islands, an Australian territory with an extensive marine reserve. The island currently has no residential population but is utilized for scientific research. There is also no economic activity in the Heard and McDonald Islands. Despite this, the country code .hm has been assigned to this island as its top level domain. An .hm registration can be completed by individuals connected with the Heard and McDonald Islands.
Even though there are not many websites with an .hm domain due to a lack of both residents and economic activity on the islands, the .hm domain has active status in the domain registry. The sponsoring organization, or power of authority that registers and administers .hm domain names, is the HM Domain Registry. The URL for registration services is http://www.registry.hm. An .hm domain can be attained with an annual registration maintenance fee that is charged for each domain registered.
To register an .hm domain name, there are a few guidelines that are to be kept in mind and followed. Whoever wishes to register an .hm domain name will have to comply with all the .hm Registration policies, and is also bound by the terms and conditions of the HM Domain Registry. While selecting your desired name, be aware that the domains must be at least three characters long (eg. abc.hm), and can contain alphanumeric characters such as A-Z, 0-9, as well as hyphens. The domain name must start with an alpha character; however, the registry will not accept offensive or obscene domain names. Registration of surnames is also not allowed. In addition, the use of undesirable email as an advertising method is also prohibited by the registry.
The .HM Domain Registry reserves the right to change registration fees when essential to maintain the efficiency of the domain name space and .hm registration process.
